The Metamorphosis by Kafka, or any of his other work. It makes you think, which is exactly what good literature should do in my opinion. If you want something more casual, I suggest Witcher by Sapkowski, it has the standard fantasy settings, but the morally grey insight into human nature and politics make it feel nearly uncomfortably real. Fortunately it has good amount of intellectual humor to not get too dark. I read many books in my life but this is the only boom I have read multiple times, so that should tell you something.

Essentially identical, the authors of the game are almost exclusively books fans, and worked with sapkowski on few occasions. What that means is that the characters personalities and the overall tone of the story is same for both media. Some of the sidequests in Witcher 3 are directly taken from the books. I suggest you to play it again after you read it, the game is riddled with absurd number of book references.

@mASHter yep and the sequel (if you can call it that) "Everything is fucked" is also pretty great. anyway, the book that I would recommend, considering the current world situation is "The deep" by nick cutter. it's a thriller and it's scary (depends on how much horror you can take) but it's really relatable to the situation right now except when it gets "deep" and creepy. I just finished it and it's all I can think of, so yeah definitely recommended to anyone who's interested.

@Charles-McPicle oooooh, I have played the game adaptation of witcher. I wanna read the books so bad but I have a lot on my tbr right now, ugh. but I'll definitely try to read them sooner. I really wanna know what Geralt is like, in the books.

There's no definitive list, just if you are curious about reading something go ahead and read that. Before you get into reading boring and unwanted books, it’s advisable to browse the books. For that you can use book review web like Goodreads. I wish you good luck for your reading journey.
