What are some sad stories that you have read? Just don't tell the ending because someone might be reading that book and not want the ending. Thanks!

I have read a lot of sad books, but the one that stands out the most right now is 'When Breath becomes Air'. Even though I'm a bookworm, I rarely cry over stories, but this one, just made me have the waterworks. It's about a doctor who discovers he has cancer, which eventually robs him out of speech abilities. It's an amazing story. And the most best and the saddest part about this book is -- it's non fictional

the fault in our stars...
i bawled my eyes out.alternatively, read the Librarian of Auchwitz. Not as sad, but still depressing.
-
Sounder,Old Yeller, The Sugar Creek Gang book where a boy's cousin's dog risks it's life for a young boy to a wolf. The dog ends up killed by the wolf.
-
@Anna-Kauffman Dave Pelzer's A Child Called It perhaps; my favourite sad book I love to revisit is Frankenstein.

All the light we cannot see

@Anna-Kauffman the road by cormac McCarthy, essential reading, powerful writing. The movie of it with vigo mortensen is superb too, completely faithful to the book, everything in the book is in the film. Nothing is in the film that isn't in the book, a rarity. But the book, oh my god, perfection in prose, not a wasted word, get yourself a copy as soon as you can
