At what age should “kids” move out? 🏠
-
So I recently found out that my 24yo brother is gonna be officially moving out from our parents’ home this summer to live with some friends. 🥲 My first thought was wtf so soon?? Then I remembered he’s 24 and that’s about the age a lot of peeps move out here, but
it still feels so soon to me and now idk how to process the fact he won’t be around every day anymoreSo I’m curious, at what age are people expected to move out where you’re from?
If you already did, at what age did you move out from your family home? Was it considered late?

We don't move out if everything is going well. There has to be a strong reason for it. Like got job in different city or go for study. Or after got married -

And those r my dog noods now. I mined ⛏ them from here. 😎 -
@WtfJudith Some parents in the US kick their kids out at 18. I moved out when I went away to college at 20. To stay living with my parents after 18 I was expected to have a job and go to our local community college. To me 25 seems really late to move out. I would say "after college age" 22/23 is a good age to move out but that's just me.

I think it can depend a lot on cultural expectations. It occurred to me a couple of months ago that my brother will be 30 this year and has never lived anywhere except with one of our parents. I was gobsmacked, I literally cannot think of anybody else I know who has gotten to his age and doesn't have the experience of living in their own place. Lots of my friends were living away from home - many even in another city - when they went to University aged 18/19, and many settled in their own home with a partner and child/children by their mid-twenties. Another one of my brothers is back home living with my Dad, he is 34 but has had his own places in previous years.
I think I was 19 when I first got my own place, but that was part-time; I had a flat-share with one of my friends in the town where I lived at weekends, and stayed home at my mum's/went to college during the week. First moved out fully probably at age 21, and yes a lot of people here would consider that late.
I hope you'll be okay, and that you can stay close. When somebody who has been around us for all our lives steps away, it's a Big Thing 😔

18-20 unless still in school studying for a degree or such, at 18 gotta atleast pay a bit of rent

but u can move into mine rn if u want😏

"kids" shouldn't move out. They should stay with their parents and must take care of them.

@WtfJudith I did move out to pursue my graduation at the age of 18.. Its quite common for the ones who seek to pursue further education from a different place than there native

Yeah I’ve heard of that being the norm in the US, wasn’t sure if it was generalized tho
Im 20 rn and that feels way too soon to me tho 🥲 wasn’t it hard moving out at that age?
And I dunno if it’s the same for the rest of Canada, but here in Québec, most of the big universities are all in Montréal, so if your parents already live in the city, most students will live with them until they graduate coz appartements are so fucking expensive rn
So it’s pretty common to see peeps living at home until they’re 24-27*also I got mixed up, he’s 24 now not 25 😂

I had financial aid and found a roommate. I also got a part time job just to have some extra money. My parents helped with my deposit on my apartment.

By “kids” I’m talking about like young adults 18yo+
If I have kids I don’t wanna be taking care of them until they’re 50 😂

By that time parents need us to take care of them. I'm 24 rn n my dad gonna retire in few years. N mom doesn't have job. Of course dad will have pension money. But if I ever think to buy an apartment I think to make money from it by ranting it or I would buy commercial real estate.
I should have be thankful coz we don't have norms like western culture n kids can stay how much they want.
Of course it means less privacy n independence. But it's convenient.
Oh n also kids from rural areas more likely to move out to cities for education n good job opportunities but since I live in one of the biggest cities in country I don't need to go anywhere. Although now I think there r some cities which r better for I.t. professionals 🤔

Imo it's best decision to stay with parents till u finish ur studies n move out when u will have a stable job to pay bills n all. -

Never...unless for jobs/studying(usually temporarily) and marriage. In many cases(probably most), the man stays with his parents even after his marriage along with his wife and children.

As someone say, there are so many people and opinions but I it seems to me that there must be reasons that kids will move out.(For instance education or work abroad) As for my family, my parents have a very radical education. They told me that I must live outside the home from the age of 16. I do not understand them but I think that it's better than living with your parents until you're 25 because maybe only way I can learn life.
