ADDICTION: a disease or a choice?
-
Do you think addiction is a disease or a choice? Just curious about people's view points :)
-
@Bonnibel well, I think it starts as a choice that turns into addiction
-
i just hate when people use it as crutch, a scapegoat, or a copout
-
@linhaha once it is an addiction do you think its a choice to continue the addiction or at that point do you think it is a disease that they can not control?
-
@mikeJB I agree. However, I've never been addicted to such an extend I feel like I will never truly understand where theyre at unless I myself got addicted to something
-
@Bonnibel it's a choice b4, nd it's a desiese after addiction
-
i think its a disease. but the root of the addiction comes from a choice! and its a choice if you want to change yourself and move towards not being addicted anymore or not.
-
@Bonnibel I don't think they have a choice once they're an addict, so yeah maybe it becomes a disease then. but it also depends on what type of addiction it is, I guess.
-
@emilyyyyy i followed you
-
@linhaha what kinds of addictions do you consider choices and diseases?
-
@emilyyyyy So ultimately they get to choose to continue the addiction or put efforts to change it, but mentally its a disease? is this what you mean or am I confused? 😂
-
@Bonnibel yaa kinda. i think it is a mental and physical disease because your body and your mind can be addicted. but if you want to recover you have to want it and work for it so you can cure it. and if you want to do that is your choice
i hope you understand what i mean
-
@Bonnibel idk. all of them, maybe?
-
its both i think, hobby is just like addiction and when you always doing that thing you cant stop it and it turn into disease or vice versa
-
actually all things and stuff you is possible if its too much it may led to addiction and disease
-
@Bonnibel both
-
@Bonnibel It starts as a bunch of choices, conscious or not. And then gradually, the person might become so accustomed or so dependent that it becomes a disorder.
Personally, addiction better be called a disorder than a disease, though. -

@Bonnibel it's a disease!!
-
@GreyWind I've never heard it be categorized as a disorder before but I think that is actually a smart label :)
