    2. A daughter/niece is given as a reward for violence

    4. David purchased his wife with 200 foreskins
      1 Samuel 18:27 “David arose and went, along with his men, and killed two hundred of the Philistines; and David brought their foreskins, which were given in full number to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. And Saul gave him his daughter Michal for a wife.” RSV

    5. Please with his virgin daughters
      Genesis 19:6–8 “Lot went out of the door to the men, shut the door after him, and said, ‘I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly. Behold, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me bring them out to you, and do to them as you please; only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the shelter of my roof.’” RSV (Although Lot spoke these words, he was favored by God. There is no biblical condemnation of this horrible act, even from God’s angels—both male—who were watching.)

    6. Kill female witches (not male)
      Exodus 22:18 “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” KJV (The NRSV has “female sorcerers.” This one verse has resulted in the deaths of many thousands of women through history.)

    7. The God wants your son but not your daughter

    2. Females have lower monetary value

If the person is a female, your valuation shall be thirty shekels. If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, your valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels. If the person is from a month old up to five years old, your valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver. And if the person is sixty years old and upward, then your valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels.’” RSV (Notice that the adult female/male ratio was 3/5, the same as the early American Constitutional “Three-Fifths Compromise” over the value of slaves.)

    3. Menstruation is an infirmity requiring a sin offering
      Leviticus 15:19, 29–30 “When a woman has a discharge of blood which is her regular discharge from her body, she shall be in her impurity for seven days, and whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening. … And on the eighth day she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and bring them to the priest, to the door of the tent of meeting. And the priest shall offer one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make atonement for her before the Lord for her unclean discharge.” RSV

    4. Wives suspected of infidelity must endure a cruel test
      Numbers 5:15–31 “Then the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and bring the offering required of her … a cereal offering of remembrance, bringing iniquity to remembrance. And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the Lord; and the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord, and unbind the hair of the woman’s head. … And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has acted unfaithfully against her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her body shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman shall become an execration among her people. But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive children. This is the law in cases of jealousy. The man shall be free from iniquity, but the woman shall bear her iniquity.” RSV (Philandering husbands endure no such test.)

    5. Inheritance goes through male relatives, unless a daughter is the only survivor but the daughter can only pass her inheritance on to males
      Numbers 36:8–12 [Moses speaking] “‘And every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the people of Israel shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, so that every one of the people of Israel may possess the inheritance of his fathers. So no inheritance shall be transferred from one tribe to another; for each of the tribes of the people of Israel shall cleave to its own inheritance.’ The daughters of Zelo’phehad did as the Lord commanded Moses; for Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelo’phehad, were married to sons of their father’s brothers. They were married into the families of the sons of Manas’seh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.” RSV

    6. God allows polygamy, for men only. Why not for women ?

    1. Men can make vows, but a woman’s vow can be annulled by her father or husband

When a young woman still living in her father’s household makes a vow to the Lord or obligates herself by a pledge and … her father forbids her when he hears about it, none of her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand; the Lord will release her because her father has forbidden her. If she marries after she makes a vow or after her lips utter a rash promise by which she obligates herself and … her husband forbids her when he hears about it, he nullifies the vow that obligates her. … These are the regulations the Lord gave Moses concerning relationships between a man and his wife, and between a father and his young daughter still living at home.” NIV

    2. Your firstborn son is favored in the will, even if he is from a hated wife. Why doesn’t this rule imply to firstborn daughter ?

    3. A woman who is not a virgin on her wedding night shall be stoned to death.
      Deuteronomy 22:20–21 “But if the thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has wrought folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father’s house; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you.” RSV (Damaged property must be discarded.) (In our eal life there are many girls who break their virginity before marriage so they all should be killed)

    4. A man can simply divorce his wife if he doesn’t like her …
      Deuteronomy 24:1 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house …” RSV

    1. A woman has to marry her dead husband’s brother. Note- Here he has not said only her husband’s brother
      Deuteronomy 25:5–6 “If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead shall not be married outside the family to a stranger; her husband’s brother shall go in to her, and take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her. And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his brother who is dead, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel.” RSV (This is all about patriarchy and inheritance, not love or family values.)

    But God killed a man who did not impregnate his brother’s wife
    Genesis 38:8–10 “Then Judah said to Onan, ‘Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.’ But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife he spilled the semen on the ground, lest he should give offspring to his brother. And what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and he slew him also.” RSV (This is the origin of the word “onanism.”)
