It would honestly sound cool to live on a new Martian colony!
Is Ignorance Bliss?
-
Is it best to know everything or know nothing at all? What do you think are the consequences and benefits of both options and which one would you choose?
-
I'd prefer to know it all.
Being in ignorance can be bliss as you will not suffer from the truth when the said truth is painful but too me not knowing it makes it worse... Makes me overthink, wonder, doubt and it just slowly eats my sanity
Plus, if I end up knowing later i'll have to deal with the truth and the fact the said person kept it away from me  -
I like @Lurker's answer. I never thought of it that way. But another way of looking at it: given that the universe is infinite and all possibilities will inevitably come to pass anyway, isn't it best to take your worst fears on the chin? One day Rastamouse will turn evil.
-
@Lurker What about when it comes to knowing other things, like how big the universe is and the lack of purpose we find in our life?
-
Well when it comes to that I don't overthink it but, I would always prefer to know everything about it then live in a blissful ignorance. I believe that a made up pretty reality is always worse then a harsh dark "real" reality.
-
I would rather know it all as I want to be able to quote the following line.
-
@TheGoldenMole to know everything :)
-
@TheGoldenMole I would like to explain it with Socrates story. As far as we know he was one of the greatest greek philosopher but still he considered himself an ignorant. His teaching method always includes some types of arguments and counter-arguments. He quoted "it is better to be an unsatisfied socrates rather than to be a satisfied pig". He asked every question to his students e.g.'what is knowledge?','what is love?' before reaching to an exact conclusion. He never considered himself a knowledgeable person.
Therefore we should accept the fact that we all are ignorant and trying to learn new everyday.
I hope you got the answer that you want. -
As Socrates said
