1. Rationalize how it's not their fault.
2. Flip it on the other person as being too demanding, selfish, or sensitive.
3. Deny being a narcissist.
4. Demand an apology for the personal attack, becoming increasingly upset until they get it.

I can confirm tho...a good apology really works .
But only if it's not a pretext to excuses

• Here I'll even write the steps for a good apology ...in case anyone needs it:

1. Acknowledge how your action affected the other person
2. Say sorry
3. Explain What you did.
4. Explain Why you did it.
5. Optional extra sorry
6. Describe how you're going to fix the problem or how you're going to make sure it won't happen again.

If you would explain why it happened before acknowledging how it affected the other person and without saying sorry first THAT would be like an excuse of your actions.
