RE: So I just saved a bird, maybe...
Today I went to the vet, and now I know a bit more. The bird is a young blackbird, and it has a broken leg. Prolly fell out of its nest. The vet, a nice japanese woman, made a leg brace:
And she told me I should bring it to the Naturschutz-Bund. So I braught it to this nice lady who runs the local Naturschutz-Bund branch. She has a whole cage full of young or hurt birds who cannot fly. And she feeds them with a little injection jab one by one every hour :open_mouth:. I had no idea taking care of birds was this much of an occupation. Thankfully there are people like that who devote their free time like this to the poor little creatures . And thanks to her husband who obviously provides the main income for the family. I'm really moved by this...

RE: What brought you here? What keeps you here?
TWS kindof is like the real world. I mean you meet lots and lots of different people, weirdos of all kinds, pervs, and lots of good-hearted warm gents. If you go to facebook or such, you instantly get stuck into the bubble with the same kind of weirdness you subscribe too. It's kinda boring. On TWS you're confronted with each and every kind...
And you become friends with some and learn interesting things from others. There'll always be surprises... It never gets boring. Except when there is a low tide again (everyone is on another shore) hmm...

Let's make TWS great again!
Hey folks, I'm back :yum:... never really gone actually, was just on vacation. And I think vacation is for switching off...
So people seem to be always complaining about how TWS is dying or about certain guys posting external links. Well. I think banning the word dis.cord is but a sign of desperation. Because the reasons why people leave is not somebody posting a link to his page or channel. That's just stupid... Why would anybody leave if TWS was great?
So I'm making this topic to give TWS a chance to catch up.
I have lots of ideas on how to make this site better. In fact I have been thinking of writing a site like this myself. But, I have no time to do that right now, so I'm giving you my ideas for free in the hope, that like this I'll at least get the benefit of a good social stranger network I can be part of...
Please feel free to post your ideas too...
A site like this MUST. BE. RELIABLE... PERIOD. Imagine facebook loosing even a day full of posts? Good bye millions (of dollars)... Daily backups are the absolute minimum. Honestly. You are losing many good people because of this debacle.
And maybe because posting the names of 4000 TWS users brings down the site for 30 seconds... You gotta implement your site in a way that things like this CANNOT happen.Ads. Ads MUST NEVER BE ON TOP OF CONTENT. Ads like those annoying ones may bring you more money. But they make sure that you have less users (and that the ones who stay long enable their adblockers). Your choice I guess.
And for the users: Stop complaining about mods. They are trying to do their job. If I was TWS I'd delete ALL complaint posts. That is not to say, that there should not be complaints! But complaints should always be directed toward the one who wronged you or toward another mod (or TWS themselve). Then the mods have to deal with these things among themselves and REPORT BACK.

Fact check with Pet: Can you prove God's existence? Part I
In history – that is in a history when still anybody believed that there was a God or were gods – people already wanted to know. The idea of proving God seemed to be especially popular at the beginning of the last millenium. The first one to come up with such a "proof" was the monk Anselm of Canterbury. This is a short summary of his argument:
- Everybody can agree on the following definition: God is that above which you can think nothing greater
- Now think God like this, but think that he does not exist
- Woops, you can think of something higher can't you? Because a God who does exist, is definitely greater than one who doesn't
- Ergo: Our mind is not capable of thinking God without also thinking that he exists
Now for the million ₫ question (currency: vietnamese dong) : Why does this argument not prove that god exists?

RE: Would you rather have no one show up to your wedding or no one show up to your funeral?
I think I'd go with the funeral. Because when I'm dead I'm either in a better place or I don't feel anything anymore. So it would not hurt me. But don't get me wrong I do indeed wish to livee a life that matters to the people around me, I want to live a life that makes sure that as many as possible show up at my funeral. Not in the sense that I'm a star or something (I never like being in the center of attention) but in the sense that what I did really mattered to them.

RE: What's your "Favourite Song" right now TWSians?
I had a phase where I used to listen to a lot eastern european pop. After my sudden sex change :joy: I remembered my namesake. Lyrics might be a bit shallow but I totally love Petra's voice:

Why do you believe what you believe?
Please tell me about your believes...
- Are you [insert faith here, resp. atheism] because you were born into a [insert again] family?
- Did you arrive there by thinking about this believe?
- Or was there someone who impressed you so much, that you wanted to understand their motivations?
- Or did maybe something supernatural actually happen to you so you started believing?
I personally was raised catholic, but then lost my believe and became agnostic. That means I didn't believe there was a God but I wasn't so irrational as to think I could actually know he doesn't exist.
But then I discovered a private revelation. I read about 100 pages, and suddenly knew it was true. Like I knew beyond doubt this was real.
That was quite the strange experience I tell ya, because I still didn't believe in God. So I caught myself thinking: "This here is really God speaking, so He is indeed real". I didn't just think that once... I thought it maybe a thousand times over the course of multiple years. Yes, I'm pretty hard headed! I didn't give up my faith in God's nonexistence without a fight, nah, not me!
Anyways, here's the link for everybody who wants to know...

RE: What brought you here? What keeps you here?
@Mr-Ghost said in What brought you here? What keeps you here?:
Now, what keeps me here, well the reason for that question would be because for some reason, I feel that this site has something that catches my attention, something that sometimes I don't even know what it can be, a mystery that to date has not been solved, and that sooner or later I will have to solve in any way possible.
I just had an idea. People talk about safe spaces all the time these days right? Spaces where there is no hate, and everything is safe and nobody gets offended...
I like the idea of a safe space, I'd just define it a little bit different. To me a safe space is a place where you can spout all kinds of dangerous and crazy ideas, without getting mobbed to death. (not even by a twitter mob)... Maybe tws is such a space to a certain degree, I wonder...

How do you relax?
I'm seriously bad at relaxing, I think I just can't do it. Only thing I do when I'm overworked is watch TV, but that doesn't relax me either... Also I get fed up by it pretty fast.
So any ideas and experiences would be greatly appreciated

Fact check with Pet: Overpopulation
Ever heard of overpopulation? Bet you did. I've heard people talk about it for all my life now. And that is pretty crazy, because the key information I'm going to present you, is actually older than me, and it's freely available to anyone...
The global birth rate, that is the number of children born every year, has been declining since 1950. Currently the earth's population increases by 1.06% every year. This number decreases with the decline of birth rates, and it will eventually reach zero and then become negative. This will likely happen around the year 2050. Then we will have a population of around 9 billion people. This will be the peak. After that it will in all likelyhood go down.
71 percent of Earth's land surface is defined as habitable. Humans use half of global habitable area for agricultural production (of the remainder, 37 percent is forested; 11 percent as shrubbery; and only 1% is utilised as urban infrastructure). [from ourworldindata.org]
So, by landmass, we definitely do not have an overpopulation, and we won't have either. We might be concentrated a bit much in certain places (mega-cities around the world)...
So what about food? We use 77% of what we produce in agriculture to feed our lifestock. 67% of what we eat comes from plants, 30% from meat. Keep these numbers in mind for we are able to feed 7.5 billion people right now!
The math I'm going to do here is not 100% clean. If somebody wants to clean it up please feel free to do so. I'm just trying to roughly estimate a number here to bring my point accross.
To feed 9 billion people we have to create roughly 30% more food in total. How could we do that? Well, simply use 30% of the grain we produce, which currently goes into our lifestock, for people instead. This would mean, by eating 40% less meat, we could easily feed everyone.
And say, we wanted to have more people on the planet :joy:? How many could it support if we only eat meat on sundays say? This would mean we'd roughly only use 11% of agricultural land for livestock and thus 89% for crops that we can eat. This would allow us to feed 19 billion people.
Overpopulation is a myth.
But don't be misslead. The actual problem is of course how to distribute all of the earths resources. And I have shown you only one example: food. There are others, but those too can be solved. So stop believing the doomsayers. And start working on the problems instead. The number of people is not the problem. The number of people won't even get close to being the problem...

RE: And here come the Final Results
Why would you use DMs for ideas on how to improve things? That just makes no sense to me, shouldn't improvement ideas be public so people can discuss?(in contrast to critique which I believe should only be public in the rarest of cases),
So, improvement: implement a proper anonymous voting mechanism (which is really easy to do). Why not make all polls anonymous in the first place? It really is a no brainer. Just safe the fact that a user has voted and add his vote to the counter. No need to safe the info what he voted on in the first place. Maybe add an "end time" to polls so that new votes cannot be added after a certain date/time. And boom, there you go. Nobody won't complain about tempering anymore.
