Here's one for you, TWS. Maybe the ultimate question of the coming millennium: What does it mean, when you consider yourself to be an ultra-inclusive progressive, but you still hate mindless housewives, mindless students, mindless drunken trolls?

There's a school of thought among the latter-era, sixties-style progressives, chief among them Che Guevara himself, that no one can legitimately call themselves a communist unless they have an abiding, unconditional love of humanity itself, in all its forms. And yet.

And yet. If you consider communism primarily to be just the antithesis of capitalism, this doesn't make any sense, since I'm pretty sure that mindlessness precedes capitalism as being the driving force of humanity. For instance, imagine capitalism never existed. Imagine we lived in a communist utopia (and I do believe in such a thing), and from nowhere, a lazy student said, "Right, I need to take take a degree course in hipster jargon for middle-middle-middle-middle-to-the-Nth-degree Media Culture Management" --how could any communist, from an a priori position, have any objections to this? In our souls, we'd know that he - OR SHE - is a lazy, conceited time-waster, but how could we actually accuse him - OR HER - of this without any frame of reference?

And this is the weird, nightmarish position that any old skool communists such as myself find ourselves in when faced with anyone who supports the kind of Hillary Clinton / Jeremy Corbyn remoaner guff that pervades modern politics. I don't want to have to call anyone lazy, or rubbish. Even if I could do anything about it. I don't want to be that person, because it seems ANAL, and UNCOOL, and UN-ZEITGEISTY.

I guess this all stems from how I was 'hanging out' (not my knob) in a TWS chatroom, and an old-style effing-and-jeffing troll rocked up and started taking potshots. One of my mates was there, and was the primary target of the troll. Now, I believe that nothing is so sacred that it can't stand up to a would-be iconoclast, even just a stupid, mindless naysayer. Yet ...how do you actually manage that? A good communist should say, 'Leave no man behind', but let's be realistic, not you, or me has the time, energy or skillz to try and reform an abject bellend, so what are you going to do? Just abandon your all-inclusive ideals?

If it's any consolation, this is cutting edge stuff. I've posted this same idea (or damn close) on a number of communist-specific web-groups, from Discord to Google Plus (says Latin prayer), and the response has been a massive collective shrug. But this out-of-nowhere, undergroundy vibe that's ever-present on TWS - surely that's gotta offer up some kinda answer?

    Eh?

  • If you expect an answer from this ever-trolling and ever-taunting faceless bunch of internet users present on a website made for ‘chatting’, then you’ve set your expectations quite high from us.

I don’t really believe in a communist utopia, atleast not till we’re not into the post-apocalyptic world where we meet a tyrant like Immortal Joe. So, for me its a bit easy to answer this question... If that abject bellend is being a pest, then follow the ‘rules’ of the place you’re in and report the said user and ask the elected Mods to take necessary action.
However, if your mate is no holds barred person... Then she - or he - will give it back till a while unless she - or he - realises that its not worth it. Its the human characteristic of ‘Ego’ that takes over when someone offends us, and hence the riposte is hard to resist. I personally prefer a “Don’t feed the troll” approach, which your mate apparently realised afterwards.

Now coming to the point if it is wrong to bash a well-behaved different opinioned opponent mercilessly, then we all know the answer is ‘No’. But the feeling of ‘hate’ and ‘narcissism’ prevades not only in the worldwide politics, but also in their ardent followers. And I think the answer to your posed question will be relative. I offered my answer. But the perspective of a late-sixties old-schooler communist utopian believer to the dilemma of ‘whether or not to surrender your all-inclusive ideal’ can only be offered by someone who is like them. Maybe the answer to it lies deep within you. So what will you choose:
An all-inclusive approach believing the individuals of the world will someday accept the idealistic views and adopt it OR Will you go for an-eye-for-an-eye approach?

I just don't know. But you're right to say that it's all relative, and that the ego is a right trouble maker. I should have said that.

I don't think my expectations are too high. This is still a relatively new website, with quite a unique vibe. It'll grow. Our hashtags will live for ever (I guess?), so it's not as if I'm in a cul-de-sac (or sac-de-balls).

Amen to that. Always a pleasure to get a chance to increase my vocabulory by following your posts. Cheers.
