No such thing as overpopulation  Have your own children. Especially if you live in a western country. Germans are dying out. Period...

@PetrAPark3r I am ALASS unable to caricature the 'stronger sex', because ...they're just too complicated. It'd be like John Carpenter's The Thing always getting tripped up somehow, be it through a blood test or just having the earring in the wrong ear-hole. No one has ever come close to exposing the secret that females carry within. For sure it's some kind of aloofness or exclusivity, but what's the exact secret? WHAT'S THE EXACT SECRET?
I have no idea what the secret might be mate, but one thing is for sure: I cannot stop laughing imagining You suddenly being turned into a woman. You'd be the funniest of all of us :joy::rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
@robtheworst And how old are you now if one is allowed to ask?
Thank god you've not gone fishin with us or else it would be awkward to ask :yum:

I'll give you one thing, you'd do great as a woman. I wouldn't be surprised if you won the competition.
I'll win alright :joy:

For anybody who doesn't know, the shroud of turin is the most famous relic of christianity. It contains supposedly the image of the crucified christ burnt into it from the resurection.
Most of the evidence points to it being created in the 1st century. But apparently:
In the 80s the shroud was dated to the 13th century. So the people who claim that it isn't real are rejoicing, triumphantly claiming it is fake. So yeah, almost nobody doubts the dating of the samples to be correct.
However this is where the samples that were dated are taken from:
As you can see they were taken from the very edge of the shroud, for which (the edges) we have evidence that it might have been repaired in the middle ages. So, quite a few scientists argue, to know for sure when the shroud was created, the samples would have to be taken from the part where the negative of the crucified is burnt into.
I agree with this of course. And I guess the the rational thinkers among you will do so too.
You can read up the whole story of the dating at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiocarbon_dating_of_the_Shroud_of_Turinl

@leelah Hinduism is science and not religious beliefs. Distance between sun and moon was identified in Hanuman chalisa https://www.google.com/amp/www.sciencebehindindianculture.in/distance-between-sun-and-earth-is-mentioned-in-hanuman-chalisa/amp/
Earth is round - our religious books told this fact in our religious books. Nuclear weapons manufacturing, flight technologies etc were written in our books.
Like this so many scientific facts in Indian vedi c
Science is based on testing your hypothesis. It based on the reproducability of a certain effect by anyone at any time in any place. It is a rigorous effort done globally. It involves writing scientific papers and thus admitting your own hypothesis to the tests of others. And whatever cannot be reproduced many times over is not believed.
Ergo: whatever hinduism is, it is not that.
I like death. Because being dead is much less demanding than living.
But death can also be a very scary thing, especially when you don't know where you're going. And it might be the case, that where you're going is actually even more painful than where you are now. Or it might be the case that everything ends, but I don't believe that. And as a with Pascal (Mathematician) I feel that in this case it might make sense to better be safe then sorry. But then again that might not be enough anyways.
For all those among you, who believe in heaven and hell: have you ever been close to death? Because if you have, you know wether you actually believe or just recite some dogma.
I personally haven't been close to death in this way. I've always feared death like crazy. But then one day, I remember it was in 2015, I realized I had lost my fear from death. Which is really crazy since I still fear lots of other things, that don't even get close to being lifethreatening. Yeah, fear often makes no sense...
Did you know that there were never as many people believing in earth to be flat, as there are today?
Yap, that's right, even in the european middle ages the scientists (which were mostly christian monks) knew that the earth was a globe. No galileo was not tried for that. :joy:
It's nonesens though, and there is a ton of ways in which anybody capable of doing a little bit of geometry can verify that at home...

lol, I wonder how much time it'll take until this science fiction becomes science. (And it will...)
Here is a suggestion:
When you post a topic the default category is "Discuss Anything". Thus horny topics go into "Discuss anything". However the default should be "Horny shit" or whatever it is called. And I have muted "Horny shit" which is one of TWS's featurs. Which should also be the default
Moderation should just make sure that the horny topics go into the horny category. That'd be enough IMHO.
@Anastasia-Smith said in If you suddenly found out that your internal monologue for the last week was actually audible, how screwed would you be? What kinda effects would it have on your relation with others?:
For me, on the scale of 1 to 10....a 100😅
How about you guys?
I'm such an introvert, that even though my monologue would be audible, I would have mumbled all the time so nobody would have understood me :joy:
To be amazing, you need to be an expert, you need to be a nerd. Trust me, everyone you are looking up to is a nerd. The rich and beautiful at hollywood are all nerds. The only difference being that the things they are nerdy about, are not seen as nerdy. But they are. Trust me. You want to be a nerd!
What you don't want to do however is live in your mom's basement...

The best part of me is that I am nothing. Being nothing is good, because then Love can be all.
@WtfJudith I'd love to be the cleaning lady in a frequently visited catholic church. Seriously. Because it means I'd get to spend a lot of time close to the One my heart loves, and nobody is going to expect much from me. Plus I'd always have enough food on my table, since cleaning needs to always get done... Gosh how much I wish I could have such an easy life
Hey you guys, keep up the good work. Love this community already.
I would like to suggest a slight change to one of the topics that you guys are proposing. In the last few days there were a lot of philosohpical questions or philosophical answers to psychological & scientific questions.
People really love these kinds of questions, I'd say there is a real hunger for transcendent questions.
Thus I would suggest to rename Science & Nature
to Science & Philosophy
or even Philosophy & Science
.
