What is reality ?

Is everything we see every moment around us real? Or just a game of our consciousness plays on us? Do we live in matrix ?

Like as Zhuang Zi put It - "which is more real? when i sleep, i see myself as the butterfly, and when i am awake, isee myself as the human. Am i in fact the butterfly who sees the dream being a human or the opposite? "

I'm not an expert in dreams or anything, but i've read a bit about lucid dreaming and there are ways to train your mind into knowing/making you realize you are dreaming, basically you decide an action you will do in your dreams to let you know you are dreaming.
It's a little bit like that movie inception, when they were dreaming their top would never stop spinning, while IRL it would. If you were constanly dreaming and what "you saw" in your dreams were reality, you would have developed mechanisms to tell what's real and what's not.

So, in my opinion, you are a human that can dream and remember their dreams!

@Anjalidevra To me, reality is what you are capable of seeing (not through your eyes, but acknowledging it). The allegory of the cave is probably the closest thing I can think of right now, the more experiences you go through, the more you get of understanding it.

It's really mind boggling isn't it? I've had these thoughts so often ever since i was a child.
What i think is this.
What we live in is our reality. Be it an illusion or a dream. The dream is a reality when we are in it. Nothing to prove otherwise as far as i know.
We don't need to have a single "reality", do we?
Whenever we're reacting to our surroundings, it's a real experience imo.
If "it's a game our conscious plays with us", then well, that's our reality.

This is a great question you pose. I often ask myself the same question.
As you grow and develop there are things you trust as much as the fact you can stand on your feel, your parents, your senses and much more.
The thing is depending which path in life you take these things can be made “less trustworthy”. L.S.D. (The path i took) changes your entire perception of everything.
The next question here is this...
If you cant trust and rely on you own senses, what can you trust?
There are many things is this world that can be explained by taking the sci-fi train of thought.
The thing is, whichever way around it is (awake = reality or dream = reality), all we can do is make the bst of it.

@Anjalidevra I think life alone is too complex for us to understand. As is reality. Dreams are dreams, that much me know. The confusing part is why we're here. What started the universe? How did and does everything align so perfectly for our planet to create life? The universe is always expanding with no end, we're less that specs of dust. Or are we? Were we just told those things? Is any of this real? Maybe all of this right now is just a big dream and we will wake up and it will all be a blur. Idk, but we will all die one day. Whatever reality is, we should do our best to enjoy it while we can:))))

@Zen00 Yeah, we should do our best in life, whether it's reality or a dream... But be curious , keep searching and questioning . Death is shouldn't stop us for being curious. Our curiosity may help our future generation.

Everything that is and isn't. There isn't really a distinction between dreams and reality if you think about it...Where do dreams occur? Outside reality? Since dreams are just your subconscious mind sorting through your memories for something of value then it's safe to assume that they occur within
reality. And this "reality" including the human "mind" is made of infinite divisibility.
