It's a holy week this week. I remember the crucifixion and self-flagellation by devotees in the Philippines:

I'm a roman catholic since birth but I don't believe that these methods of repenting for the sins are correct.

@Indrid-Cold the so-called believers doesn't even mean what they've just said and believe,well most of them are to be exact but claimed they're religion and belief is the only way of living at the same time which actually supress the feelings of hatred toward other's beliefs and action despite of considering for what they've just did to the others by punishing the sinners,infidels and non-believers and call it self-justice and self-righteous for the world's interest according to their own rule through their belief system of standard.

Also this is meant to be a productive Q&A session, so if you must try to take it slow, don't spam, as I've stated, a lot of people here spam verses, which are taken out of context like the "kill the idolaters" 9:5 verse which refers to the people of Makkah who were opposing the Muslims at the time of Mohammad's revelations, they had opressed the Muslims. The verses that come immediately before 9:5 state, “Those with whom you have treaties are immune from attack.” It further states, “Fulfill your treaties with them to the end of their term, for God loves the conscientious.” Now, in its proper context, verse 9:5 can be properly understood.

Islam is about peace. I recently converted to Islam and fell in love with it. Everyone is entitled to their own belief. No one should bash any other religion, or put any other person down whether they are religious or not. What made me love Islam is how it unites so many ethnicities, races, etc. You really feel like you have this huge family.

Great essay. If it was written especially for us TWS daftlads? That would be the coolest thing in the world. It's a very alluring idea, isn't it, that elements of all the really contemplative religions could be smushed together into progressive whole. I like that idea. Christianity (it seems to me) is definitely the most intellectual religion, and Buddhism can go suck it, but what it all means is anyone's guess. I used to dote on 'The Perennial Philosophy' by Aldous Huxley, and, yes, Teilhard DeChardin is The Man (I like that his books are as much scientific textbooks as religious treatese). But really? As I've got older, the most obvious statement that can be made about the religious world is that we're in some kind of claustrophobic, gnostic, worst-case-scenario, and you can be as intellectual or as stupid as you like, and everything will be the same.

A holdover from the late 1600's. But, I must say you are doing the better option of bringing attention to it! Thank you, you are right, the Caste system is propably the worst instance of victim blaming on a large scale in history. Maybe apart from blaming the jews for everything that went wrong in europe... There are other instances however, and I couldn't stop myself from thinking about it this morning. I've been told here on TWS by (reasonable) Hindus, that it's Jesus' own fault for being crucified. I personally have never studied Hindu faith, so I really couldn't say, wether victim blaming is something intrinsic to the idea itself. But the fact, that there was not a single Hindu disagreeing with blaming Jesus, suggests to me, that it might indeed be intrinsic. Or that the majority of Hindus is interpreting the concept in the wrong way. You know I am glad, that my religion does not tell me, that I could even look for the fault with the person who something bad happens to. Simply because I am no saint. And if I had any reason to assume the victim (of a proven crime) was somehow at fault, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from thinking just that. I wouldn't be able to stop myself from judging them. So I am really glad that I don't believe in karma, because it would tempt me into thinking (and maybe doing) awful things. But that's just me. Maybe I am that bad a person
