  • You could say everything we experience – including dreams – is more real than the "objective world" because experience and consciousness are the two things whose existance cannot be denied (cause you are conscious of your experience right now).

The question is rather: is there an "objective world" and if yes, what makes that one so special? There is certain undeniable evidence that there is indeed an objective world: Things in this world make sense.

When you wake up from a dream, you realize that often, your dream did not make any sense. You blipped from one scene to the next, people and things just change and that all seems to be logical while you dream. If however your dream becomes a lucid dream you start to realize that things don't make sense and thus you realize that you are dreaming.

But even more than that. Using something purely theoretical – mathematics – we were able to create the most amazing technologies and predict events in the natural world with great accuracy. Everything in the natural world just seems to follow certain rules and it all works together to create this strange harmony of reality.

If this was a matrix it was just too perfect. We have not been able to find a single bug in reality. By perfect I obviously don't mean that there are no problems, I mean the fact that everything in the universe is working so well together that something as fragile as life could even exist.

  • @Anjalidevra Y.E.S YOU ARE REAL AND YOU EXIST AS A HUMAN AND LET ME RECALL YOU, THAT'S WHY YOU POSTED A TOPIC AND QUESTIONING YOUR REALITY. NO BUTTERFLY WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT. Arghh theoretical physics is wasting our best living minds on nonsense with those bullshitting thots that reality is an illusion and bla bla, don't really dig it.

  • @Kana you see butterflies are Insects and their nervous system is relatively underdeveloped for a very detailed model of the world especially for hypothetical worlds (which would be important for planning and reasoning). What I meant, was ''no butterfly would question ''its existence'' 'cause it ain't capable of.

  • We are conciousness , as Sigmund frued defines the concept of ego , our core personality that lies beneath our awareness , we may be humans but conciousness is being

  • @Firefly said in What is reality ?:

it's a philosophical aspect* of Theoretical physics. However, there is a difference in perspectives and theoretical Physics leads to many philosophic inquiries which are mostly spurious or misleading.
Some of you may not agree, but this is what I think. Can't argue further.
    Peace out.

Yay, my first flamewar! I know the better man steps back first, so I will give you the honor of being the greater man among us today. However if you give it back to me I will keep it this time.

The question what reality is, if it is objective, if our senses can tell us something about this objective reality, or if reality is a dream and wether our experience is more real than the world itself has been asked by philosophers since thousands of years. Platon, and aristotle have made it a topic and so have the great gurus of the east, Buddha himself not the least. It has been a thing long before theoretical physics was even a thing.

What makes this topic uniquely philosophical however is the fact, that theoretical physics deals with the physical world. It could never answer the question why there is anything at all. Thus the question what reality is cleary oversteps the boundaries of theoretical physics. Especially since, from the perspective of theoretical physics, it is impossible to gain any knowledge over a spiritual world (if such a thing exists). However it is very important to include the question of spirituality when wondering about what reality really is. To be completely exact: this an ontological question, ontology being a subdiscipline of philosophy.

But I do very much appreciate your insight, because indeed as you said theoretical physics adds very interesting aspects to the discussion!

  • @Anjalidevra I think I am sometimes the reality of dream and sometimes the dream of reality 😉 Anyway, I agree with a thinker saying : "I think, therefore I am".

@Anjalidevra wow mene yeh sab likha tha kabhi 🤔🤔

  • Reality is boundless

  • @Anjalidevra Reality is that which when you stop believing in it doesn't go away.

  • @Anjalidevra well they do say the human mind is the most complex machine out there so I guess it’s whatever you want it to be. I mean you have a point “ are the actions we act upon ours or is someone controlling us to follow through with them” ( like when you get an urge to do something ) so yeah that’s a tough one I don’t believe or not believe what reality is I just appreciate so far in life I’ve met decent people and have forged decent friendships because with that you can then share experiences and pass stuff on to others and future generations. ( sorry for the rant ) but I would be interested to see someone’s view on reality that is a loner vs someone with friends.
