• a very interesting clip, thanks for sharing!

  • That's all very nice, Dr L, but the question she asked you was, 'Do you know you could pay less for the same hotel room by using Hotel Trivago?'

  • @pe7erpark3r

This was an amazing share, thanks! This guys gave me the chills talking about such subjective matters!

Yeah, its another instance of the science of the brain conforming with the wisdom of human interaction. You know I'm not so sure about this subjectivity. I mean of course what you feel is what you feel. But this is a dogma of our time – and people will mob you if you disagree! – that everything is relative and subjective.

Sure, you cannot have perfect truth, but we are getting ever closer science wise. You know I always bring this example of someone being convinced they can fly right? They step off a building, and what happens? They die.
Another person is being convinced they cannot fly. The person who is convinced they cannot fly is much closer to the truth. And the other one is outright wrong.

And the fact that happiness can only be quantified subjectively does not mean, that there is not some objective truth to happiness. Just don't ever be too sure of your dogmata you know?

The whole idea of relativity comes from Einsteins relativity theory right? that nothing has a certain speed except in relation to something else. There is no fixed space. Nothing is absolute right? Wrong: if you are x kilometers faster than someone else, your time runs y-times slower. Always. No matter how far you are apart. Einsteins relativity theory is true, everywhere, no matter how far you are apart. Of course you also have to add gravity but the point is that relativity is objectivily true. And so are many things that can only be experienced, that are subjective of nature...

I know buddy and I'm slowly giving in to that idea but part of me still screams that love and feelings should be much more then chemical reactions!

Oh but I think they are!

You know wisdom, or conscience already is something that cannot be reduced to matter. It just doesn't make any sense.

Take two stars colliding. In and off themselves thats no different than two stones being kicked around and colliding. Or two cells melting. It has the same significance: None.

However in relation to us, all things gain significance. We make everything significant through being. Meaning is not just a function of the material world, it is so much more than it. It is not just chemistry...

But chemistry will never contradict that which transcends it...

I know and I also get what you are saying, but it feels like most ppl that use science to explain love, tend to make the whole "falling in love" and "being happy" a chemical reaction. Ofc feelings are more then chemical interactions in our brains but our actions are compeled by that and I simply have a hard time agreeing with it.
Maybe the carnal side, the one you look at a girl and say she is hot and that makes you wanna walk up to her and strike a conversation cuz the act of looking at her produced that chemical reaction in you, but the act of loving, being understanding and involved with someone is much more transcendent then that!

    it's a pleasure :joy:

  • I'd like to offer you a little food for thought.
I cannot remember the source however scientist have measured the weight of a person during the time they died.
If I remember correctly the weight difference is 2 oz.
The very second your body dies you lose 2 oz of weight. Is that how much your soul, you know the fabric of your being weights?
As I said it's just a little food for thought.

That's quite an interesting little fact. Need to fact check that though... Maybe science has an explanation :yum:. Doesn't compute with my worldview though, souls should not weigh anything :joy:

  • @pe7erpark3r
I would not have thought my soul weigh anything either although sometimes it feels quite heavy and other times it's light as a feather.
please fact check that for me and let me know what you find it's been at least 10 years since I heard that are read that but please let me know what you come up with
