I don't know anyone that doesn't pursue happiness in some way. So really idk how to answer it. People that pursue happiness are not always happy right? Those that do not pursue it can still be happy regardless. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Now my brain hurts trying to answer. lol
I would also answer the same like mine would be neither as happiness is more of byproduct of what you did . So those who do are not guaranteed to get and same goes for who doesn't may or may not . But yes agreeing with all of us in some way or other are pursuing happiness . Thanks for your ans 😊

Thats rare people cant describe themselves and take it good sense like you have a blank canvas to work on and define your life

@MadMax_Sensei I like this question.
My word is focussed.
When I'm going after something, like a goal, I lock it in my mind and go after it until I achieve it.
That's cools @Aussie-John 🔥

@MadMax_Sensei we all are naturally seeking for happiness, today we have something, tomorrow we'll be looking for something else. Our base drive is to attain pleasure or happiness. we all can't be happy unless we pursue it but it depends where you pursue it. In today's world we all are seeking for it in things or outside world.. if we look at saints and their experiences, they say to seek happiness within ourselves. So, instead of looking for it outside try to look within yourself because if within there is no peace or satisfaction or happiness, you will always be agitated by what happens on the outside and this world is full of uncertainties and objects of pleasure are temporary, they can give you pleasure only for a while and not for too long.. that's why people are always on the look out for something new and exciting but again those things too don't last long. A beautiful analogy is given in this regard- there is deer who's glands secret a fragrant musk and that deer spends his whole life searching for it but he's unable to find it 'cause it's right there inside him. so, like that deer we all are looking for happiness here and there but it's within ourselves. pursue it within!
without pursuit you can't be happy 'cause knowingly or unknowingly we all are in pursuit of it. that's in our nature, you can't stop looking for it.So first i want to commend you for such a thought , I read twice and thrice times to fully understand is . Ok so yes i agree what is happening in today's world is that we are hungery for happiness , i just want to add that it's because we never identify or understand whats truly happiness is for us . The best example i can give is of mother and a child , like childs wellbeing will be mother's happiness . As she has defined what her happiness is that's were we are lacking like I were to define my happiness is then I could be comparatively much happy , though I will be sad if i won't achieve it but still but i have clear vision , if the people could get a clear vision or understand abt their happiness , they will not fall into despair . So that's my take on your view

@thiccms said in Pursuit of Happiness:
Happiness is just an emotion not a way of being. Happiness is something you have to work for most of the time. so people who are happy often have pursued happiness but that was most likely not their goal. Living a healthy fulfilling life is sort of the pursuit of happiness since it usually leads to a lot of happiness. Therefore only those who pursue it regardless if that was there original intention (for example just taking care of themselves) will be happy.
Yes i agree on the point that it's more of byproduct of what you originally do or intrest in like reading a book was your intention and happiness you get it from it is it's byproduct , but I disagree on the point though on the point that you pointed out only those who pursue it will gain happiness , if I were to take example of surprise you are not pursuing it or know about it but yes if it was a good surprise you will be happy but on the other hand it could be bad surprise . So what I meant to say is the answer is neither those who pursue or those who don't are not guaranteed happiness , it's just a emotion we get at the heat of the moment .
Btw thanks for your opinion loved reading it. -

Those who don't agree have no idea how ruthless poverty is.I appreciate your answer but what I want to know is who are happy those who pursue happiness or those who don't?

RE: Pursuit of happiness.. let's discuss, shall we?
@Achal99 ok so you tagged me here , your opinion was quite interesting , ok so my take is that
- Can you say in ideal terms if something is perfect ?
Most will say no and ofcourse in my opinion something as always defect no matter how minute , so why do people long for perfection ? So see this as more of a endless road like more you walk further more you will be near to it perfection but will never tend to it . I apply the same principle to happiness like you could be content with how much you walk passed that journey and everyone will be content with different lengths like you stated some will be happy for survival( like poor people) while some with complex issues( mostly rich) so yes how much you walk on this path matters , if you push yourself to walk forever you will never reach true happiness . So yah thats my take on it
So ask yourself how much you want to tread on it and with how much happiness you will be contented
