I rather be rich and powerful, why would I give wealth and power to ppl that could be corrupt or not defend my best interests? That's like asking if you'd give food to someone if you were starving

Government will improve infrastructure.. Gives good government service to civilians.. Improve education system.. And much more .. So what will u do if u become rich and powerful?
