Describe your surroundings out to a 1 mile radius...

It's SPRINGTIME. Outside, it's sunny, and really, we should all be outside, or at least acknowledging that the outside world exists. I mean, I guess it's admirable --on a social level-- that we're all poring over each other's personalities in order to find TRUE FRIENDSHIP, or looking for some kinda existential, serendipitous, internet-based TRUTH, but at the same time ...don't you think just the vibe of our location plays as much a part in our personalities as our opinions, and desires? EH?

I'm not so interested to know the name of where you live, and it's probably best you don't write it because STALKERS EXIST. But I'm curious. Is your locale mostly streets, or fields? Is it hilly or flat? When you look out of your window, can you see other windows, maybe containing other characters going about their lives? Where's the nearest river, and can you hear it at night? How far do you live from the sea --far enough that the concept is magical, or near enough that it's passe? What's the history like? Was there once Romans, or Vikings, or Native Americans knocking about? How high are the trees? Is it dense enough that you'd be able to perpetually hide if there was suddenly a full-scale Police dragnet looking for you? Is it isolated enough that an 'Invaders'-style saucer could land, unobserved? Maybe you live in a city centre. I honestly can't imagine what that's like. TELL ME.

I'm particularly interested in your blind spots -- is there somewhere nearby that you've simply got no idea what's there? I've lived in the same place since forever, so I can picture everything out to, say, 30 miles. Not sure if this is cool or uncool.

    "Autobahn"

    German detected.

So, apart from the overpopulated scotch pine that grows every millimeter here, Brandenburg is somewhat decent viewed from its "natural" side. The pine trees are planted everywhere because of greed.
You're lucky if you manage to find a "german oak" anywhere here. There are 4 lakes in my "vicinity".
That means that you need to cover some great distances if you want to witness just another dumbing site for trash. If you plan to go on foot, that is.
Oh, did i even mentioned that EVERY forest here is full of trash? And many waterways such as rivers and creeks are POISONOUS. They even emit an awful smell. Fish are rare.
    Now onto the animals!
We've got extinct bears, extinct lynx and even extinct wolves. But not only that, there's more!
Millions of boars and deers that need to be "maintained" by the humans, because the natural predators that once were here are now all gone! And what does that mean?
All the meat for only the selfish and arrogant humans!
I saw some ringed snakes and "fence-lizards" last year and the year before. They are very rare.
Brandenburg mainly is made up of fields and mounds. But the people here call these mounds "mountains".
They are all really desperate for some mountain hiking, i suppose.
When i look out of my window, i see the Autobahn in the distance, the fields, the damn pine trees and two houses some hundred meters or so from the neighbouring village.
I jokingly call Brandenburg (Translates as "Surgecastle") "Sandburg" because there is sand EVERYWHERE.
I even found a fossil of a sea urchin once in Berlin. But that's another story.
Everwhere you go you see humans and their "work": Asphalted roads, trash, houses, landfills, factories, Autobahne, destroyed World War 2 bunkers filled with crud, allied bombs, now illegal G.D.R. dumbing sites and even some military exclusive zones and drill grounds.
Slavic (and celtic [They are the same, by the way. Also they are my ancestors.]) people used to live here some hundreds of years ago but thanks to Albrecht the first and the franks they all got genocide'd or christianized. Or both.
Everything nice that once was here is no more.
Except all the marshes and swamps. They almost got rid of that.
We have proper roads now. So there's that.
Can you evade the police here? Sure! If you know your surroundings.
    Such is life in Brandenburg.

  • I don't have a photographic memory, so I cannot picture my surroundings like you can. Well there is a river, not too far, which you could hear if there wasn't the Autobahn, which you do constantly hear. Lots of houses around, big city, but not the center, so also green around. No sea around, but since I've been there, it isn't a magical concept. Actually I do find the sea quite boring.

  • @lego-batman But surely the sound of the Autobahn can be quite relaxing? Kind of a swishing sound?

  • @lego-batman Hmm. I just think, if you're watching a bleak movie, or you're feeling DOWN, even intrusive sounds like trucks can be be kinda comforting because it reminds you the world is still going about its business as usual.

  • @Indrid-Cold I got bitches to my right, hoes to my left, snakes in the grass, and success straight ahead

  • @TheGoldenMole Well, I guess there's a vacancy for that kinda thing now that R Kelly is REPENTANT.

  • @Karina-Kara (scratches head) I'm not gonna go all out and call you a tree racist, K, but I CAN'T share your opinion of the pines. If nothing else, I like the minty smell -- in England, the only way a person can get a minty smell from nature is to feverishly rub a conifer bud between your fingers, and then your fingers are permanently stained green so that you feel very unhygienic while eating a bag of crisps.

And, yeah, we had native trees that are now almost extinct. Elm trees, so associated with WITCHES, are now almost gone, leaving just regular, non-dramatic birches. Also, you guys don't have complaining-dibs on war debris, either. Anti-tank bulwarks and sentry bunkers are in every other field, and, yeah, they're all filled with rubbish --which may be a good thing? I don't want to look thru the slits and see the ghosts of some bored ARP wardens.

But I take it the lakes are still unpolluted enough to skim stones on? You strike me as a stone skimmer --five every time like a Wild West trickshooter, am I right?

Also ...Fence Lizards! ... you're so lucky. I like 'em because it looks like they're always paying attention to you, which is more than you can say for THE HUMAN RACE.

Thanks for the detailed report, though, mate.

    @Indrid-Cold
I have my reasons to hate on the pine trees.
    First: They're boring...
Second: They are a major threat here by getting their branches broken off very easily or falling entirely because of the high wind that sweeps through the landscape here annually every spring and autumn.
And they just suck. You cannot even use their branches as proper weapons.
Do i have to state any more reasons?

The lakes are fine. Some kind of fish swims inside them. And some people have the guts to swim inside the lakes even. I never did, as the water is always too cold for me.

Also, a pregnant fence lizard once somehow managed to get under my brother's bed in the summer.
How did it even manged to avoid our little, feline murder-machine whilst instruding the domicile?
She brings atleast 1 (one) mangled mice into the basement per week.

Idk, nah, I guess not, also the house rumbles when a big truck drives by. Strange really because it is not that close after all. But, you habituate after a bit 🤷
