I changed for you.

When we started our relationship,
I was getting a grip,
of our new scene,
and I never meant to demean,
but that would happen now and then.
I was trying to keep it real,
and give you my whole deal,
because I thought that would appeal,
but it wasn't for you.
So I start to become unglued,
as you began to pick apart,
some of my little quirks,
as I did what worked,
for you,
and as for me,
it wasn't possible,
to continue to with what I thought was laudable,
since it got on your nerves,
and I began to curb,
some of my aspects,
as you were my prospect,
for which I would climb,
but to make you mine,
I had to rely,
on different qualities,
and at some point I just forgot who was me.
So for you I made changes,
but those came at the cost that made me feel strange,
as I'm feeling like a foreign entity,
inside of my own body.
I thought I could make it work,
but now I'm not sure it was worth,
all this trouble and pain,
and I feel ashamed,
that I let it progress,
but I put aside that stress,
for your happiness,
as I became second,
for you to be in heaven.
I'm starting to piece,
together how I ceased,
to feel like it was still my own demeanor,
as I've started to feel weaker,
and diminished,
so before I'm finished,
I'll work on myself to get better,
as I refuse to settle,
for someone who belittles,
and downplays,
all of the things that make me great.
