The big poll: City ...or countryside?

My suspicion is, countryside will win this poll by a landslide. You've got the wild animals, the pleasant greenery ...but also, with less people in the countryside, there's more 'secret' stuff going on. When I was a kid, I found a samurai sword in a wood five miles out in the middle of nowhere (true story). But which is not to say that I don't appreciate your POV if you prefer the city. The graffiti, the architecture, the fancy shops: all good. I have this recurring dream that Bristol is just on the other side of the valley outside my window (as opposed to being thirty miles away), so obviously my subconscious brainhole is well and truly sitting on the fence.
But if, as I suspect, the countryside wins by a landslide ...what gives? Look at it this way: almost all office workers (infamously) can now work from home. Also, everyone hates travelling to work by train. So why doesn't the government build shops and offices on the edge of smaller towns and villages? Everyone would be happier. You're not telling me that it won't be just as cost-effective, or pro-active for the economy, to have little 7.5 tonners heading out to the countryside as a gazillion, regular-size artics all heading to cities (which is what we've got at the minute). Anyway. Blah.

Don't like cities, but here is an important bit of information about them:
Cities are good for the environment. This is not a joke.
- People who live in cities use measurabley less natural resources than people who live in the countryside. Just think about costs for heating: It takes more energy per person to warm a 1-family home, than to warm a block. Why? Because your neighbours heat also warms up your flat a bit.
- people in cities care a lot more about the environment
- allmost all pro-environment movements are created by people from big cities
- allmost all environmentally friendly technology comes from big cities
- allmost all money spent on the care of the environment comes from big cities
- Cities are thus the primary driver for countries becoming environmentally friendly, once they have reached a certain wealth. We can see this in china right now (chinese cities have started a lot of pro-environment initiatives in the last decade)
All of the above is statistically collected data (e.g. scientific fact)

My family did not regret this choice after leaving the city for good. -

If the city it's not too large i preff city, i don't like a giant city to live cause a lot of stress usually, but maybe yes for travel ^^
