How do you catch catfish? How do you know whether someone is a catfish or not?

Step 1: Google the picture they claim to be theirs and check if you get a match.

Step 2: Listen to them and check for inconsistencies in their stories, because there will be many.

Step 3: Check the story they told you on the internet if its a famous story, most of the time these kids pick up stories from reddit or public accounts or even news.

Step 4: If you find some inconsistencies do not call them out on their bullshit asap, wait and build a proper argument.

Step 5: Ask them to communicate outside TWS and check if they also have other people on their account preferably people from their real lives.

Step 6: Be rational. If it sounds too good to be true, its not true.

I've also noticed that most catfishes get their pictures from twitter :thinking_face:
If I would be a catfish, I would take some time to actually upload pictures to imgur and try to use not so known pictures / that were hard to match google reserve search :laughing:

This is also a good idea, but I prefer to drag the convo as long as I can so that I can see how far are they willing to go, if you call a catfish out usually they go silent and it's no fun. I have yet to find a catfish that fights back :joy:

@justchatamy i used to watch the tv program Catfish. It always amazed me that people feel they have to lie about themselves in order to speak to the people/person they want to.
If you put that much time into it you could of used the time and the effort to get to know them for real.
@ObviouslyLucifer has some great pointers there, but I sort of agree with @maxime that you can never really know.

@justchatamy If someone evades personal questions, gives only general information and most importantly declines to give you a picture. Giving picture is easy today tho, so it's better to go live camera few times or something like that. Other users provided better answers I believe :D

That’s a great help, but some of us don’t really do Facebook.
I tried it before, but now have a clsosed account with a few close contacts... place did my nut in. When ya with someone and their entire day revolves around posting the most random shite.... eating now, look at my food, omg FarmVille needs me... whaaaaa .. no sir.
This is similar, but better ... still I suppose Facebook can be ok to go fishing if ya use it
