See ,i used humor ..whatever you were expecting in a comment the above was probably not it & now you have taken some interest in this comment.
you are going to remember this a little more than others.

Its all about making people feel relaxed in your presence & making them feel funnier/happier when you talk..Thats how you make a great friend.

I have found humor to be the best icebreaker along with interest in themselves.

Dont directly ask about their current job , family etc..they may not be happy with what they have & your question may make them further clamp up & withdraw from you .. Observe them,their clothes ,their body language,their facial expression ...

& accordingly ask

"Whats their passion " ,
"What do they look for in a job" ,
"their dream company " ,
"what they will do in life ,if they could be anything "
"What games they like to play"
"ask about kids" ...

@toriantte_ I am always creative and straightforward when it comes to chats; if somebody starts replying to me with oh lol, wow, and similar killers, I leave em on seen so they can wonder why the fuck. I never respond using such messages, even if it's somebody I really don't want to talk with.

Get people to talk about themselves.
Simple, but super effective in my opinion. After a while you'll start to get to know their interests and from there you will know what they enjoy talking about.
Still, it's hard to keep a long conversation going if you both don't have much in common, so I usually try to find things we both disagree on and debate about it.
