• I'm sure you all know that we judge people subconsciously without even knowing it. Within 7 seconds of meeting someone your brain has already decided if this person is someone you like, trust, can be friends with, etc. AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN 7 SECONDS

Does knowing this make you feel any certain way?
It seems to me unfair that this isn't something I can control. I try my best to be unjudgmental towards everyone but when my brain is on autopilot it does whatever it wants, even if it means judging someone without my notice.
Does this oddly upset anyone else too? Do you feel like you judge people quickly? Are you even aware that you do?

The study of human brain is indeed a very interesting subject.
Our subconscious, apparently, is much more powerful and knowledge-storing than our conscious mind. I think we all need to learn to control our subconscious. The various ideologies shared in books by authors might or might not work but the various exercises that apparently develop a spiritual connection i.e. Yoga, should surely help. Now let this be clear, YOU CANNOT FULLY CONTROL YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS but you can definitely influence it with the thoughts that you want to keep. That way you can keep your brain off the Auto-Pilot mode when you wish to.

I went off-topic judging that you didn't know about subconscious. Ah... Pardon Me.
Coming back to the topic...I think most of us already know about us all being Judgemental, whether willingly or not, due to the very rightly and elaborately laid out concept of "Confirmation Bias" by the new Mod, Divyam. So I personally try to be unbiased consciously and it doesn't really mean that I'm right all the time, but I'm satisfied with giving others a fair chance to influence me.

P.S.- My subconscious told me that you're cheeky in the first 7 secs after reading your username, but your posts made me assume you're good-natured. But now I've seen two hypocritical jibes at the assumed pervs from you and now I'm starting to be judgemental. :)

  • @TheGoldenMole We can't help it. But yeah, I guess it is upsetting.

  • @TheGoldenMole

No matter how much we deny, humans are shallow beings. We often go after pretty things and we like to feel appreciated and noticed for the simple pleasure it brings us, so It's only natural to be judgmental when we meet someone.
I often say I don't judge people and people usually don't get what I mean by that, since as you stated quite right, humans are judgemental creatures, what I mean by that is simple, we all have opinions based and formed from other people we meet / get to know, but we shouldn't let those opinions cloud our judgment of those people and that's what I try to do, I always try to look from the outside, put myself in the other people shoes and understand them instead of judging and assuming things that sometimes looks but aren't.
It would be the same as "judging a book by the cover", should I avoid reading a book if the cover doesn't appeals to me? What if after I read the book, the cover wins a whole new meaning and I start liking it?

That's my view in this matter

What you are referring to here is in psychology known as,

    confirmation bias

It’s basically, our brain’s way of finding a pattern in the behaviour of someone, and then make an educated guess, as to what that person will behave like. And then with each and every interaction, we “judge” that person, on the basis of the predictions we made, or simply put, confirming our biases about that person.
Our brain has developed into a pattern finding maniac, which finds patterns in almost anything,
From finding Jesus on bread toasts, to finding a pattern of compulsive lying in a person.

Does knowing this make you feel any certain way?

Yes, now I know, that I’m yet not another judgemental bitch 😁

    We're secretly all judgmental bitches

It seems to me unfair that this isn't something I can control. I try my best to be unjudgmental towards everyone but when my brain is on autopilot it does whatever it wants, even if it means judging someone without my notice.

This thought comes, because you believe judging someone is wrong.
Take the saying ,”never judge a book, by its cover.” And throw it in the bin. 😁
We have evolved to judge. And by judging I mean, to find patterns!
Just think about this, with a perspective of cavemen. If they didn’t find patterns, then they could never identify wether what type of food was consumable, and what would give them a bad case of diarrhoea!

but judging food is one thing. Judging people is insane. Especially when our judgements are probably more wrong than right.

Does this oddly upset anyone else too? Do you feel like you judge people quickly? Are you even aware that you do?

Well, I know that my brain judges, after researching more on the topic of human psychology, so now instead of doing it subconsciously, I do it consciously

    😁 godammit I wrote a lot

I appreciate your essay of a comment 😂

  • @Wolfie_11 I see... you have a lot of different judgements about me. Are you giving me a fair change to influence your judgement on me?😯
Your idea of a person can change so fast with so little information. If you know you're judging someone, even if it may be inaccurate, aren't you then in control? Do you then reserve your judgement or continue to assume they are exactly as you judged them to be?

  • @Lurker That is a very good way to view people. Do you think your opinion ever clouds your judgement on other things? Would you say that most people let their opinions cloud their judgement?

  • @TheGoldenMole
I’m open to views, always. Everyone has a chance at influencing me. But at the end of the day, I do my thorough research on the subject matter i.e. the person before forming an opinion about them. I like to scan through every views, feedbacks and opinions that we form. Lets be honest, we can’t be free from judgement. Every damn ounce of feedbacks shared involves a bit of judgement on the conveyer’s part.

Also, I suppose you missed the sarcasm in my answer. I try to form opinions only after obtaining sufficient amount of information about them. My various judgement jibes at you were light-hearted and should not be taken in its literal sense. Hope you see the fun side of it.

Oh yeah... That definitely and I can give you a practical example.
I'm currently in a very weird and sticky situation with a girl which I love and no matter how much fuckups she does, I can't stop ever finding her a wonderful / perfect human being. I tell myself that my opinion isn't biassed but I know well enough that my opinion about her clouds my judgment as most ppl told me she is nothing but trouble to me
So yes... The better our opinion about someone the lighter/positive our judgment will be!
