Many people, have an attention span of a goldfish, and to make them go through various verification and other hassles, will just discourage them from interacting.
i understand, that there is no way around, to accommodate both the ease of users, as well as the security, but the new people, have no incentive whatsoever to go through all that hassle.
They haven't interacted with the users already on the platform enough, neither have they got the high from posting topics and posts.
So easier option for them would be to just leave, before even trying.

Hmm, I don't really think so. Today you have email verification everywhere. It's standard procedure for every crappy forum, shop or even blog comments out there. People are used to at least this step. And remember: not seeing spam, is inviting people to stay ;-).

And the big ones (google, facebook, twitter, microsoft, apple, and so on) even have phone number verification added on top. It's not going to keep new users away...

I personally haven't been around at a time when TWS was that great I suppose... For me it has always been like this. I've seen a few interesting users go though... :'( ... I wish it could be different... But I don't really know why they left. I don't really know what about TWS it was that kept them, and what drove them away. I would love to know. I would like to be part of a place that keeps users like them.

But maybe it's just that real life changed for them?

• change the criteria that define when a horse is dead
• hitch up multiple dead horses to become faster

Yeah the face is not everything, especially because people tend to try to hide their real feelings. But the closer you get to your own emotions the clearer you just get the feeling of the other person.

Maybe we should start a social network that rewards anonymity in name/age/looks but focuses on being real in all the ways where it really matters...

Topics become interesting if enough people contribute. To get people to contribute requires getting people to notice first. I only have 2 followers so I fear that what I write won't get noticed. I wonder if that's just my insecurity talking?

I don't have a photographic memory, so I cannot picture my surroundings like you can. Well there is a river, not too far, which you could hear if there wasn't the Autobahn, which you do constantly hear. Lots of houses around, big city, but not the center, so also green around. No sea around, but since I've been there, it isn't a magical concept. Actually I do find the sea quite boring.

It depends on what you mean by love.

The nice feeling of butterflies in your belly? For me that was more in my teens.
The feeling of being really attracted to someone? That happens a lot, if you only go out there.
Clicking with somebody and realizing you really have chemistry? Once again if you are only out there, that tends to happen every now and then.
Developing a real crush on somebody, that does not want to go away for quite some time? The younger the more I assume.
Falling in love deeply? For this you have to overcome a lot of barriers, you have to learn to trust each other.
Marrying? Obviously happens way too often for some ;-)

Well I think marriage is work. People don't realize, but that is what it is. It is like building a home. And it is the home of your kids, forever – unless you break it. Even if they move out, you'll still always be the rock in the temptoous sea of their life.

I do believe that truly giving yourself to another person requires a certain maturity. And it can only ever be a two-way lane. Can it happen more than once? I do think so. But in the purest of ways I believe it can only happen once: If you really give away yourself to the other person, you are given. You cannot just take it back. Which does not mean you cannot leave them, but you cannot give yourself again in the same way. But I don't believe that every marriage fulfills this, only some do.

Well first you go through some kind of judgement. This one can actually be said to be "known", since millions of people who had near death experiences have reported just that. Many times it is accompanied or preceded by seeing your whole life play like a movie and you understanding what was good and what was bad. Of course, from a scientific perspective, it is impossible to say wether these experiences constitute anything real or are something the brain does. From this same scientific perspective it is however important to note that some of those experiences happen with the brain having no measurable activity at all.

After this? Well we simply cannot know in the way that science helps us know things in this world.

So I'll just portray a world view I know very well, the christian, more specifically the catholic one:

When people die, they meet the Messiah, Jesus Christ. They will then see their life through His, through God's eyes and beyond any doubt recognize the actions they undertook with love or without love. In front of His eyes, only love counts, nothing else.

Christ offers them his Mercy, He offers them to take their sins on His own shoulders and to forgive them. In fact He already atoned for them when He died on the cross. But He wants you to accept His Love, to accept His Mercy, to say "Yes, I did wrong and I don't deserve any of what You are offering me".

Since to God, your free will is holy. He would never take it from you. In fact what He actually wants is to be loved or rather, to let Him be the Love inside you. And love is not love if it isn't given freely.

Some people do not accept His Mercy, because they do not want to forgive themselves, they do not want to acknowledge that they were wrong. Some want to take revenge on God for for the fact that they themselves are not allowed to decide what is right or wrong. For the fact that the only being truly free to do anything out of Himself is God (every creature can only ever bring forth anything that God has already made possible), and they are not God. These people will choose to be without God, without the source of love, of joy, of peace. And if there is nothing good inside you or around you, if God is completely absent, you already are in hell.

Those however who do accept His mercy, might go to purgatory, which is not a fiery place, but it is similar to hell in that while you are there, you are without God and since you now know Him, you'll suffer like crazy until everything that is not good in you is burned out.

Then, or if you are a saint right away, you go to heaven. Heaven in reality is not a place with houses or anything the like. Heaven means being with God, living inside His Heart, being one with Love.
