Do You Listen to Music for the Lyrics or the Tune?

Lyrics or Tune? 🤔
Or both?I personally listen to music because of the tune mostly, because when the tune is nice your focus shifts from the lyrics. Lyrics matter to me too, so both.
What’s your reason?
-
The lyrics obviously is the dominant factor for any kinda music..most people find solace in music due to the relatable or soothing lyrics, so do I. I mean obviously the song has to have a catchy and show stopper tune but what sums up the whole song is the lyrics, the amount of emotional details it adds to the song is remarkable. If music were a person then the lyrics would definitely be its soul!

For me,it is lyrics 90% of the times. Lyrics are the decider. Good catchy tunes are enjoyed temporarily and I stop listening to them after a while. But the lyrics seem to stay forever as they bring out emotions. Almost all the songs I listen to have good lyrics,some of which I can relate to lol. So it has to be lyrics first and then the tune. I find songs meaningless without lyrics just like contemporary art without definite shape. But that is my personal opinion and not a popular one I guess.
PS - At the same time, I love classical music lol.

@Butterscotch
I often get driven by the lyrics more then the tune but it wasn't like that all the time. I remember back in high school I wouldn't listen to anything but rock and metal and nowadays I still listen to rock and some metal but also pop, hip-hop/rap, eletronic/edm, alternative/indie and so forth and most of it happened due to the sheer relatableness of the lyrics.

I always struggled with understanding the major difference between rap and hip-hop but here's some of the artists I put in this categories, mby you can give any a try and end up liking them: NF, Lil Peep, Post Malone, XXXTentacion, Joji

@Lurker I'll seek em out tomorrow, currently got Korn's 13th album on (yay for leaks) then I'll plays tools disk then it's rage time but I will check them, thanks
Also I don't get difference between rap n hip-hop but I'm not one of thoese ppl who sub classifys every band till each band has its own unique style.But maybe you can help me with 1 thing, how the hell is RNB rythem n blues? In the 60s RNB was a style now seems everything fits the bill. It's got me fucked what makes RNB RNB lol
-
See how there's so many genres in that top? :p It's literally one of each genres there, there's pop, hip-hop and others xD

@INSANE-INSIDE KPOP?!!

It near impossible for me to say either, with a music background I obviously appreciate the complexity of compassions and arrangements, but I need lyrics too, it's why dance is not a style I get into (with the odd exception) and I do like darker lyrics based on emotion more than random story's, hence being the Korn fan I am but saying that I have a heap of songs I like that don't follow that rule at all (check out my name is sue by Jonny cash) So I really can't split the 2 and say definitely I prefere a or b. Sorry I have to choose option 3

@Butterscotch tune

@Lurker see I don't relate to rap at all, hey NWA and early cypress hill were kick ass, but since then non has really grabbed be, some songs do but not many.
I watch the top 40 kinda music video shows and we got rage here, Fri night all night new music vids and sat night is a guest programmer so can be anything at all but 95% just missed me, I'm unsure why reallyhttps://www.abc.net.au/rage/playlist/
Gives you an idea what I mean -

That’s so true!

Ooh you have quite a distinct taste in music, nice.

I believe RnB was the genre that evolved the most with time, I believe it started as something that fell in a lackluster of use and become what RnB is which is like a mix between pop and the old RnB. It's so fluid that you can even dance to it cuz it has a bits and hits of every genre.
-
@Lurker https://www.billboard.com/charts/r-and-b-songs some group but there's a couple odd ones
-
@Lurker yeah it's just random lol
-
lyrics are fun to ponder but beauty transcends words
-
@Butterscotch So first I listen to a song for the tune, and then I listen to it over again, and learn the lyrics and then I’m like:
wow, the lyrics are deep
So, both ig?

I listen to music thats tune is great. I never give attention to lyrics or music artist. Sometimes, I listen even break-up songs like attention, silence etc 😂. I like hip-hop, rap and electro music.
