I agree with Sarah, that the "random" way cannot be the way to go. In the past century so much information has been generated, that it would take a single person millions of years to process it all.
Reading is a good idea, but one needs to find good sources. Share them.
For books I for one would recommend Peterson's reading list... You have enough to read for quite a while if you only read half of the books that are central... Too much for me anyways
So yeah, reading is good. But filtering might even be more important. Separating the wheat from the chaff. And sharing only the wheat, if possible.
