F = Probably the founder of the line or the last name they remember.

You can go back as long as you can remember.

Mods are never chosen before hand, and you know it.

There was a time when current mods used to recommend names and then admin would choose the people he thought were capable of the responsibility.

For the last 3 terms, people have applied and mods have been elected by people for themselves.

The only people who think this system doesn't work are

1. Trolls who just like causing trouble.
2. Spammers who get mad at mods for banning them.
3. Conspiracy nutjobs who think everything has a secret theory.

As for you @sup you were gone for a long time and you have never seen either of the elections in action, so I implore you to give this system a chance instead of making conspiracy theories about it right away.
