Sex can be addictive. We're biologically hardwired to seek it, and it's easy enough to form a habit around it. If a person can be addicted to it depends on their mindset, and to what degree depends on certain factors, such as if they have an addictive personality or not

RE: Is it ethical to profit from people's misfortune?
Morality is relative to each person and there are numerous models out there that have their own sets of principles. On this premise this question has no definitive answer. In extension to that I do not know what moral principles you hold, therefore you must ask that question to yourself in a mirror: Do you as a person consider yourself good or evil, and with that do you think exploiting others is something that you consider ethical?

To be right. although with that said I'm personally more concerned with adhering to reality rather than people liking me

RE: Can questions be offensive?
Yes. It is up to the person you are questioning if they wish to be offended. That is their prerogative.
Keep in mind however that it is entirely at your discretion depending on your own sensibilities if you should care or not.
