I actually read the book where this quote comes from "On The Shortness Of Life"(By the way this isn't a quote anyone else has posted online for others to see as far as i know) and read many philosophical books before arriving to it then reading this magnificent piece of philosophy. Read the book if you want, i think it's a book anyone can learn from. Cringe is subjective which means what is perceived as cringy depends from one person to another and from what I've seen everything is cringy to you
