Yes In my opinion regret is a awareness sign of understanding what happened in a better way .. if no one regret what they did things will repeat itself and mistakes would become a habit and a person will become irresponsible . So regret -> think-> analyze-> conclude-> change -> set rules -> take decision -> Apply or take action . Thats how it works.
