I have a very hard time letting go of the past and becoming an adult.. I'm still kinda pulled back by my past, is there anyone else who's feeling this way? Any advice that one can give? :/

No, never. Only wahhabism/salafism is a problem 'within Islam'. Individuals like Ibn al taymiyya, Ibn al qayyim, muhammed ibn al wahhab and their kind is a problem. If it wasnt for those extremists, there wouldnt be so much violence going on. Real Islam is based on the teachings of Muhammed & his Ahlulbeyt (peace be upon them all). There is no injustice, tyranny and violence in original Islam (:
