Craters are rare on earth due the natural elements, (water and air erosion). That's why we see craters on the moon because of the lack of water and wind. On Mars we can see where water once eroded the land, smoothing the landscape, but now that no water flows on Mars, craters have covered its surface.

There are numerous impact craters on the earth. Today there are fewer, because the atmospheric density creates friction on the surface of the falling objects causes them to evaporate or explode, therefore smaller pieces fall than in the past, when the atmosphere was still "young" and even more heavy. :)
