Which is best ...Star Trek or Star Wars?
-
So, let me say, as funky instigator, that I like em both. And obviously, I'm talking about the viewing experience: if it was about merchandise, Star Wars is obviously an obnoxious sell-out. But as entertainment, as I see it, both have mutually exclusive good points and bad points.
Star Trek pros:
You can choose to go bleak (DS9), exciting (the movies), pure sci-fi (The original / TNG) or soap opera (Voyager).
Mostly science-based, therefore no religion to upset the militant atheists.
Star Trek cons:Too much wan ky time-travel / parallel universe guff.
So many episodes, you have to constantly cherry-pick, and that makes you feel like a nob.
Star Wars pros:Better escapism because they're ain't no Planet Earth in Star Wars universe.
No time-travel, parallel universe guff, and less techno-babble.
Star Wars cons:As Hollywood films, they always have to ham-fist action sequences even when the story doesn't need it (the Force Awakens TIE-fighter stealing, the Last Jedi horse-racing planet ...why?)
Fewer story lines (mainly just Empire versus Rebels, Jedi versus Sith).
Well? Have at it.

Who loves Princess Leia here? :)

@cjko Nice. I almost bought that as a fancy action figure from The Entertainer for £10, but then I just went next door to the bookies.
