Random strangers do what now?

So random strangers like to harass each other. Why exactly?
Do they just not have anything better to do? I read that any attention is better then no attention for these people. Why is that? Also what is that like?
How can I help people see that there are better things to do then to harass others? And if you are a troll what do you get out of it?
It's part of the dark triad personality. Is there a better way of handling it then to just troll back? A way that gives then an out and isnt mean? Like you are trying to get where they realize "wow this is pointless" but at a quicker rate but without doing anything nasty to them.
It's a behavior. Dont hate the person hate the behavior. Ever heard of hate the sin not the sinner? So how do you deal with this behavior in others, effectively, in a way that's not being a dick?

Well the 3 definitions are very different:
Liking the same sex sexually
Happy
Stupid, uninteresting (slang)
Rather interesting no?
