@Vicious-Retard Well, it's also that we notice and remember the things which appeal more to us. The depiction of pirates and privateers is sure quite misleading. There still are certain instances that indicate the default job of a usual pirate to be scrubbing the decks, lol. But somehow, its significance gets downplayed.
I remember that William Turner didn't have scurvy.

As you stated there is nothing romantic about it. The pirate life is far from the media portrayal. Imagine a medium-security prison run by the inmates floating on water. That was pre-modern pirates.
